Chapter 1

Talk about Pablo Castel, and it was he who killed Maria Iribarne.

Paul was a, well exactly a painter artist. He said that the phrase "All past was better", was not true, and least in his case, because when the thought of his past always remember the bad things.

He thinks somehow criminals are harmless, they help to cleanse society of pernicious individuals.

He also said that the world is horrible and would show it to the case of a pianist, but not to talk about it, but soon later if you have time.

Chapter 2

Here Paul says that telling his story, the story of a crime he committed.

It also says that history is counted not vanity, and that other people believe what they want and that is human; flesh and blood like everyone else. He also remembered his mother and remembered that when he was a boy believed his mother had no flaws, but after his mother died, he realized that with his actions had a little vanity.

He also says he hopes the end of his story even a person understands, but thinks it is very difficult as there was only one person who could understand, but it was precisely who killed.

In conclusion, this chapter Paul means we all have a little vanity.

Chapter 3

Here Paul says that we all know that he killed Maria, but nobody knows how was the relationship between them and how I plan to his death. He said he presented a painting, called "Motherhood" in the Spring Salon 1946, in Buenos Aires. Everyone went and looked at the picture but did not notice a small window that had top left of the picture, which was painted a woman who looked to the sea, only fixed in the foreground image, for they believed that little detail was just an ornament. But one step woman and look at the painting but unlike others in that scene was set for the window, but after a while disappeared into the crowd and felt fear, but no sap had felt that feeling.

At night when I get home either it felt good. Every day he went into the living room and closely to see if he recognized the woman, but she was not seen again and from that moment the only thought of her and see her again, and somehow just painted for her.

Chapter 4

One day, Paul manages to see that lady you saw in the hall, but did not know what to do or how to react, he recalled that he had already planned a meeting with her, but was unable to implement it.

At the he found the lady frequented rooms of paint, and thought to have a conversation with her in one of many rooms, but thought it was very difficult because the did not frequent these places, and explained that he was not going to these sites as readers must have seemed very strange.

He said he did not like groups and the like. Does not like jargon and vanity of these groups, and came one example, Dr. Prato. This was a great friend of Paul. One day Paul Prato invite to a party in a society that belonged Prato. There was a high quality of people. Paul decided to go outside. There he thought that the groups least favorite were the painters, because of the reviews since they only criticize without knowing how a painting is painted, it is as if a person who has not come to play a scalpel will critique the work a surgeon.

Chapter 5

In this chapter Paul says that should rule out the possibility of finding the woman in an exhibition, but think about the possibility that a friend of hers she could be present, because he is very shy. But then also rule out this possibility. Then he thought of a different possibility, Maria meet on the street, but the trouble is that there was a problem Who would initiate the conversation? He was very shy, and was unable to start, then only I'll take a chance, she began.

At various time imagined encounters in which she lead the conversation and from that he continued, but the problem was that she started asking for anything as far as art.

But one night he thought it was impossible that take the initiative, and even more difficult than if she were to ask took his picture, but then thought that it was impossible as it was also very shy.

Chapter 6

One day Paul saw the woman on the sidewalk out front and then you will come to mind many of the meetings and imaginary conversations I had thought in case you find it, but remembered that it was she who must take the initiative The company followed up T, and there, almost reaching the elevator, Paul asked if that was the company T and she said yes, but seeing him blushed and asked him why was blushing, but then he thought that was normal, since he had left in magazines and newspapers. Then he told her he had to say something on the window, but she asked What window? Paul thought that if she did not remember was that the window had not given greater importance, and told him that sentence, he was wrong and left. Soon she reached him and told him not imagine that he was asking for the window box and also told him that she remembered that scene constantly, but she ran after saying this and Paul ran well, but he thought it was not necessary to run, which in the end could find it out at the entrance or exit of the company T.

He was happy because she had told him she had constantly thought of that scene.

Chapter 7

Paul wondered What company? To the one who had told him that she worked there.

He left the company and was in front and see if the saw, but did not see her anywhere. Soon he decided to go to the elevator and go up to see if he suddenly saw, but then the other floors search did not find him. Then I went and thought 3 possibilities:

That diligence was doing was very long and still had not come, then had to wait.

That diligence before making had gone for a walk, then also be advisable to wait.

She had a job there, then had to wait until the hour of departure of staff.

He decided to go sit in a cafe and wait. After a few hours passed, Paul discard the first two possibilities, needed only to wait out the company staff.

At 06:00 PM. Came the first employees at 06:30 PM. They had gone almost all employees were only employees occupying the highest positions, and decided to wait until 07:00 PM. But this time she had not come out.

Chapter 8

Paul got home very depressed by what happened in the company T, and began to think it was necessary for the back to see Maria. He also thought that diligence she had been doing, he would have postponed to another day by disruption of the meeting, or if it was to work there would have decided to go home by the encounter, in these two cases was convenient to return the next day . But a third possibility was fatal, he had thought of that diligence that Maria had to do was very short and that while the sought she had gone out and had not been crossed in this case nothing would go the next day, but decided inclined to the first two possibilities.

The phrase that Maria had said: "The constantly remember" had left thoughtfully at Paul, then Paul decided it was necessary to see it.

Chapter 9

The next day Paul went to the company T and began to wait until the saw out of the subway, immediately ran to her, grabbed her arm and led her to the park San Martín.

She asked him that he needed, and he responded that he needed to talk to her urgently.

When they arrived at the park and sat Paul asked that she was gone and she said no sap. After talking a while pable told her he needed her, and Maria asked him why, and Paul told him that she was the only one who had noticed that scene in your picture, and also because she it was like.

After a while of talking Maria asked Paul that he would win with her, and then she added that damage to all who approached him.

Chapter 10

Maria and Paul remained in that would be again, but Paul wanted to see inside and still see and not be separated anymore.

Then she said she had to go.

At night, when Paul came to his workshop I call Maria and told her I needed her, and she told him to wait a moment and release the speaker phone when Maria returned to phone Paul said that he had not stopped thinking in it, and she told him she had thought much in and around and told him all that had seemed very strange and she was very upset.

Then Maria told him to hang up now and told him to call the other day and she said good.

Chapter 11

That night was very restless and decided to go out for a walk, and I could not paint. On the street looked with sympathy to the people and that was not common in, and that in itself usually looked at people with antipathy, especially the crowds.

On that night his contempt for humanity seemed to have disappeared completely and decided to go to coffee Marzotto hear tangos.

Chapter 12

In the morning Paul called Mary and told her that she was not, she had gone to stay but had left a letter. The letter had left him thoughtful and thought immediately go for it. When I get to the house of Mary, who was on the fifth floor, I rang the bell and opened a servant and told him he could go to the room. In the living Paul felt that behind the someone and immediately Volt to look and saw a tall, thin man who had eyes wide open but he was blind, such asked who he was Mr. Castel and pable replied if and Mr showed up and told him that called Allende, and Maria was his wife. Allende told Paul that Maria talked a lot about him and his painting, and then pulled out the letter that Maria had left for his pocket, Paul opened it and read it and said:    "I also think of you"    MARIA.

When folding the paper Allende felt I ask Paul if the letter said something urgent, but pablo replied no.

Allende told Paul that Maria had left the family farm (stay), but it was at this time in the hands of his cousin Hunter.

Paul told Allende already had to go and retired.

Chapter 13

After this conversation with Allende, Paul needed meditate good things.

Pablo things like that Maria had told her he was married, and I had to go to the room to be with Hunter asked. These and other questions were spinning in the head of Paul.

A pablo will still still seemed strange that Maria is locked to the phone. I thought she also talked with other men as he did with it, because the maid thought it strange when Paul called his house asking for Miss Iribarne, when others told him only Maria.

Returning to the subject of the letter, Paul reflect and pulled more deductions as how and sent him the letter.

Paul oblivion rather its reasoning and is best devoted to trying to remember what it was that had his face, and that made him remember something from your past.

He felt the love that had nurtured for years had focused on Maria.

Finally, Paul tried to leave behind their silly inferences about Hunter, Estancia, telephone, etc.

Chapter 14

The following days were hectic for Paul. The name is Maria's house and asked the maid the direction of stay, and that night Maria Paul wrote a letter asking him to call him.

That night, Paul dreamed of a house who knew since childhood, so some memories told him the path to follow, but I felt I had enemies and people making fun of him and also felt that the reborn loves childhood and feelings had these made him feel, but when he awoke he mind that this house was Maria.

Chapter 15

Here Paul says that in the days that passed after he sent the letter to Maria his thinking was like a dream, seeing things and dangers and said the word "night" was the word that described perfectly Maria.

Then Paul tells the letter sent Maria, saying that the landscapes he saw brought back memories and said that when he stood in front of the sea looked like Paul stood between the sea and her. After Paul finished reading the letter, had the strange certainty that Maria was the one and only of the and yet had killed her, saying that he was a selfish and cruel.

Chapter 16

Paul says he loves Maria and waiting for his return. Paul wrote back saying that he loved her. A few days later I received a letter speak of Mary in which she told him she was afraid of him evil and Paul immediately responded with another letter saying that he did not care.

Soon Maria Pablo i phone and told him to come the next day. When Maria arrived called Paul and were to be found in the secluded.

When they met there Paul asked Mary for she was gone, but she did not answer and see that she told him she wanted to talk to him but Paul said he did not want to mention the fate of the two and you said the wanted and then asked her feelings for him and she replied that she wanted too, but Paul asked him how was that she wanted him to it, as there were many ways to love a being and that was not the same love a brother or friend to the groom.

But then Maria and told her he was leaving and Paul asked that he was going so fast, she replied saying that she was afraid that did not understand her, too, and said she had warned him that he would much evil and replied saying that it was because of him.

Paul asked a few years Mary had her, and she responded by asking the same to him and he told her that he had 38 and Maria told him he was very young. Paul again asked her age but she did not answer and said that the conversation was very absurd.

Chapter 17

After that meeting continued watching several times daily. Sometimes Maria was the workshop of Paul; and Paul the only guarantee of love was physical union.

In some encounters with Mary, Paul grabbed her by the arms and pressed strongly hurting, but other days its suitability with her was totally positive.

In one of his violent encounters Paul came to that extreme of grátale "WHORE", so she awe and began to mourn; Paul, repented, ran and asked for forgiveness, I come to the point of begging fellow mourn and saying that he was a cruel monster. Just calmed Maria began to smile, and that Paul seemed suspicious because any woman who told it would not be happy even after being asked forgiveness.

These scenes were repeated several times and then they decided to go for a walk.

Chapter 18

Paul every day toward their more frequent interrogations. One day I asked Maria who called himself by the name Iribarne and not the de Allende and she told him it did not matter but Paul told him to another and she laughed saying it was customary for the family . Paul also asked that the maid had missed when the first call asking for Miss Iribarne and she said that was normal and laughed again, told him all that did not matter and also told him that was fantastic, but Paul remained serious. Paul kept asking Maria things about her on because when the door saw others know that they can not disturb, and then asked by one Richard of which she had spoken to him on another occasion; The I ask if she had a crush some do see him, but she said no and that part of the resemblance to Paul; she told him that Richard was not his type, then Paul told that by saying that looked like him, but she said she only paresis, not that it was identical.

After all this questioning Maria remained depressed and do not ask anything more.

Chapter 19

A Paul came to mind many doubts about Maria and Allende. He had two unknowns: What had wanted? Do you want even ?; these questions were spinning in the head of Paul and decided to clarify.

One day I ask that you had married and she replied that she loved him, the then asked that in the spring she had said that he was the only man she had loved, she stayed silent . Then I wonder if she even slept with Allende, and she answered yes, then asked if she still wanted to Allende, and she replied that the fact she slept with did not mean that he wished then Paul told her towards him unwillingly, and that if they did was deceived by it, not just their feelings but also your feelings. Maria wept quietly looking down.

For a moment Paul wanted to take the cruelty of their questions to the maximum and said Deceiving a blind.

Chapter 20

After having said that phrase Paul felt he had two personalities: A cruel and mean, and the other pure and tender; which was about to grovel and kneel to apologize, but anyway it was too late to close the gaping wound that his words had created in the soul of Mary.

After that Paul did not hesitate to kneel and kiss his feet as he apologized, but all I get was a look of compassion from Maria. After she left the workshop, Paul felt he had to do something and ran outside but since Maria was not seen; then decided to take a taxi to take him to the house of Mary and sat down to wait. Then I call home from a pay phone but was told that he had not yet arrived, so Paul decided to go for a walk along the sides who frequented together, but did not see; then callus in mind that after that episode she would not want to remember and therefore would not go to those places they frequented. After a while Paul decided to call again but was told she was asleep and could not come to the phone.

Paul felt something was damaged between Maria and.

Chapter 21

When Paul goes home feeling that this only because of their actions.

Whenever you feel those feelings provokes the temptation of suicide and feel like getting drunk, so he decides to go to a cafe near the pier and there with prositutas and some sailors get drunk; after a tired room with those dirty women decides to leave and sit by the sea while, there begins to think, but decides to go home and without realizing is in front of the house Allende facing the fifth floor and decides to call; while going to a phone thinks of how to justify a call at that time and after you answer the phone remains silent and decides to hang up without realizing is again in the cafeteria, but decides to go home and when it reaches the workshop made in bed with clothes and sleeping.

Chapter 22

In this chapter Paul wakes up and tells the dream I had:

He says he had said with some friends to a house. After Paul arrived I see the house from the outside and seemed common and equal to each other and decided to enter, but see inside saw that the house was different from all the others and the owner of the house told him that he was waiting; was there when Paul realized that this was a trap, and attempted to flee but his body was not responding; Paul then resign myself to see what happened

Then the subject turned to Paul in a bird came his friend and Paul noticed that they had not realized that he was turned into a bird and it looked normal, then Paul decided to shout to warn of the danger but only out a shriek and besides that his friends heard not; Paul then realized that he was lost and that secret would go with him to his grave.

Chapter 23

After waking my watch and ran to call Maria, but was not, so he decided to write a letter in which he said that was rubbish and did not deserve his love. They spent days and not get answer, then wrote more letters and at last told him what had happened the night they fought, also said he had considered suicide.

In the mail I get a letter from Maria, she wanted the outside to the room where her then Paul immediately went to the Constitution station to catch the train was.

Chapter 24

Pablo arrives at the station and it was there waiting for a driver who tells her that Maria had not come because he was ill.

The driver took him to the room, where Maria was, and there he received Mimi Hunter Hunter and they did a series of questions. Then Hunter told her that Maria was indisposed and then come down and decided to take him to teach the house, told him the room where he slept was the deceased grandfather and then took Paul to his bedroom.

When Paul went into his room banged on the wall, hoping it was Maria who was there and he answered the blow, but no one answered. Paul decided to go out into the corridor and there would touch the door but could not and ran back to her bedroom. Then he went to the garden and was very disoriented.
